Perfect Day in France: Culinary, Scenic & Cultural Itineraries
The Perfect Day In France
When I reached out to my friends around France and beyond, I didn't realize at the time how much I would end up loving this idea. I asked them to share their "Perfect Day in France." And that was it - no rules, anywhere in the country, a real day or one imagined.
And what came back still delights me as I write this intro to you. Each day itinerary perfectly represented these beautiful individuals, down to how they formatted their messages. Some were quick and to the point. Others had their itineraries organized into neat sections. And yet some wrote their dreams into a story format.
I decided to keep their submissions as close as possible to the original. It's perfectly them - these beautiful souls who have found their heart and home in France.
I hope their "perfect day" inspires you to have one of your own. Enjoy.

April's Perfect Day In France

"My perfect day in France starts by waking up along the coast, windows open, the sunrise streaming through, with the sound of waves singing in the distance. I enjoy a warm cup of java as I wake from my slumber and get ready for my perfect day!" - April Pett
We step out into the morning air, and follow my nose to the scents of butter and yeast floating through the calm air to a boulangerie. Warm, flaky croissant in hand, we continue through the cobblestone lanes to a farmer’s market.
It is a sensation for all of the senses as vendors smile, offering samples as we pass through the stalls of colourful fruit, delicious cheese and cured meats.
I feel so blessed to live in France, where markets are a mandatory part of weekly life and my absolute favourite weekly activity! We purchase a few treats for a road trip down the coast to Mont Saint Michel.
Mont Saint Michel is one of my favourite places in the world, this majestic abbey looking like it has been taken from the pages of a fairytale. After a morning exploring the narrow streets, shops and galleries and up to the abbey itself to take in the views, we hop back in the car and drive to Cancale for an oyster lunch feast.
The fisherman at the seaside bistrot fetches the oysters straight out of the bay and opens them at our table, fresh sea salt dripping onto the plate, right in front of my hungry eyes (which are dancing with delight at the scene!) Lunch wouldn’t be complete without a crisp glass of white and warm baguette with local, salted butter. After lunch, we walk along the waterfront before jumping back into the car.
Direction: St. Malo. The 45 minute drive to this quaint fisherman village is cruisey, with photo stops along the way at Les Rochers Sculptés and a visit to Musée Jacques Cartier to pay my respects to the man who founded my homeland, Canada! Once in St. Malo, first things first, the hunt for the best kouign amann in town, then down to the beach to relax after an amazing road trip along the coast. After a break under the sun, we walk off all of the buttery goodness from the day along the city ramparts. At sunset, we sit at a terrace at the port as the sun sets and bid the fisherman a good haul as they set sail for the morning’s fresh catch.
My perfect day in France ends with one last meal and a toast to this marvelous country that I now call home!
