Where to Stay, Hotel Fougère
Deciding on a stay in Paris means choosing the address of the souvenir you will take home.
Long before the time when one spoke of experience to qualify one's stay, the traveler simply mentioned the hotel of his destination. The legend of Parisian literary hotels was forged on this habit.
"Going down to a hotel": the expression takes on its meaning with Bertrand Plasmans. A Parisian hotelier by nature, he took his first steps in an establishment on the Boulevard du Montparnasse, which he had renovated. That was in 1989. Ten years later, he became the owner of the Saint-Thomas d'Aquin, located on the rue du Pré- aux-Clercs, a peaceful and almost provincial address in Saint-Germain, bordering the 7th arrondissement.
If the trend is for boutique hotels, pampered and groomed, Bertrand Plasmans took the gamble of renovating the bathrooms, repainting the rooms and, above all, well before it became fashionable, covering the façade with climbing plants falling from the balconies in cascades. This green gesture will become the signature of the hotel, which from then on will be appreciated by a clientele that will soon become loyal.
The year 2005 saw the acquisition of the Saint-Vincent Hotel, an 18th century building next door to the previous one, which was formerly the headquarters of the Union des Œuvres françaises de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul. Transformed into a beautiful and welcoming bourgeois house, the Saint-Vincent was immediately popular with travelers from all over the world, delighted to share the experience of a Parisian interlude, both intimate and sin- gular, decorated with eclecticism.
The year 2013 marks a milestone, with the purchase of the Lenox Hotel.
The same year, the three establishments were grouped under the same name: Le Saint. Located at the corner of the rue du Pré-aux-Clercs and the University, concerned about preserving the precious quietness that made Le Saint work miracles by combining its international clientele with a demanding, urban Parisian clientele.
And then one fine day in December 2018, Bertrand Plasmans put down his bags and parted ways with the Saint. A page is turned. This time, destiny roots him in his garden in the Pays de Caux. Containment garden, spring roses, freshly grafted fruit trees, between raids in the yard sales and trips to the nurseries, a new idea blossoms: the renewal of a new Parisian hotel. Acquired in July 2020, the address is the best located in the world, since it is on rue Bonaparte, at number 36.
