A MUST VISIT
Historic, charming, and filled with hidden treasures, the 2nd arrondissement of Paris is not to be overlooked. This vibrant and welcoming quarter of Paris features classic Haussmann architecture and bright passages full of shops, cafés, and restaurants.
Walk through the bustling street of rue Montorgueil, explore the magic of Galerie Vivienne, or see a show at the biggest cinema in Europe, Le Grand Rex - the 2nd arrondissement shines in its unique way and is always worth a visit.
SIGHTS TO SEE
GALERIE VIVIENNE
Built in 1823 for Parisians to spend their time shopping in luxury, Galarie Vivienne became a historical monument in 1974. And, we promise you, you've never seen anything like it.
Detailed mosaics are artistically laid throughout the floor of each hall, and antique shops wait for customers with passionate shopkeepers. Wandering this passage reminds me of walking the Ritz Hotel, at a slightly different price point.
LE GRAND REX
Le Grand Rex was constructed in 1932 and prestigiously sits on the corner of Boulevard Poissonnière, right beside the Bonne Nouvelle metro station. Art deco architecture and beaming neon lights make this theatre the biggest in Europe.
This infamous landmark hosts concerts, movie premieres and screenings, musicals, and more. Visiting tourists can watch the newest movies inside or take Paris past, but as they stroll by in the present.
PASSAGE DES PANORAMAS
If distracted, you can easily miss the oldest Parisian passageway, constructed in 1799, which reminds us of its old-fashioned glory. Once inside, you'll notice the skylight roofing, classic tiles, and original woodshop facades, with each shop selling a specialty and paying a homage to French craftsmanship.
The name "Passage des Panoramas" comes from an exhibition built by William Thayer, an American architect. He had two rotundas placed on the front of the facade, displaying "panoramas" at the time.
OPÉRA COMIQUE
Established in the 18th century by Louis XIV, this lesser-known opera sweeps guests off their feet by its humble beauty. Imagine mesmerizing golds and reds, intertwined with unbelievable details and bright lights before showtime.
Stylized in neo-baroque architecture, this opera house offers tours and also has weekly shows featuring French lyricism. Despite being named "comique," or comic in English, it means the use of some spoken dialogue instead of a classic opera, which is sung throughout.
